Share with classmates

Turn a recording into a link. Classmates see the transcript, translation and review notes, and can save a copy to their own account once signed in. If they have BufferMind installed, links opened from Messages or Safari go straight into the app.

• Full-screen mode on the recording detail page: hide the top bar and playback bar and read the whole transcript.
• During playback the current word stays highlighted and the page follows along; the playback bar shows the current position and total length.

Record system audio too

A new recording source, "System audio": whatever another app on your phone is playing (an online class, a meeting, a video) is captured, transcribed and translated alongside the mic.

Notice board

Home and Settings gain a "Notice board": new versions, new features and announcements are explained here first.

Cantonese headphone translation

Translating into Chinese? Headphone live translation can read it to you in Cantonese: when you turn it on, pick "Cantonese" under Voice — remembered for next time. Playback is also faster and smoother than before.

Recording page

• A full-screen button at the top right: hide the top bar and the recording bar in one tap, leaving just the subtitles and translation.
• The Lock Screen / Dynamic Island card is rearranged with the timer on its own on the right; it keeps counting on the Always-On display too.

Battery

• A "Low Power Mode" switch in Settings: long recordings use less battery, with recording and translation unaffected.

Folders & sidebar

• Creating a folder offers "Pin to sidebar" — it appears in the sidebar right away.
• A new account's first sign-in shows a demo recording; follow the finger hint and long-press to get started.

iPad

• The headphone playback switch moved onto the recording bar; the paused-state buttons no longer show their old look.

Fixes

• No more dark glow along the top of bottom sheets, plus smaller polish throughout.

Continue a recording

Long-press a recording and choose "Continue recording" to pick up where it left off. The new audio and transcript are added to the same session — one lecture stays one recording, even after a break.

Andy

• Zoned out? Tap "I just zoned out" and Andy gives you a plain-language recap of the last minute or two, plus where the lecture is now. Ask in English, get English.
• When your name is called, the card now shows the question Andy caught and a direct answer.

Home & library

• Recordings are listed by when they were recorded. Pin the ones you want to keep at the top.

Friends

• The Friends row in the sidebar now shows a count — pending friend requests first, otherwise unread messages.

Fixes

• The live transcript no longer stops following along when two people take turns speaking.
• The "back to top" button on the session page no longer overlaps the top bar.
• iPad: recording and folder cards in chat match iPhone, folder pages show shared folders and invites together, and the sidebar now blurs under the status bar.

Add friends with a QR code

Show your code or scan a friend's to send a friend request, or share your link instead. Find it under Friends.

Recordings shared in chat are now yours

Accept a recording or folder a friend sends you and a copy lands in your own library, ready to replay and to ask Andy about.

Andy

• Answers start with the answer — no warm-up, no sign-off.
• When you ask a question, Andy now reads the whole lecture so far, not just the last few seconds.
• If your name is called but no question was caught, you get a short heads-up instead of an empty card.

Home & library

• Recordings are ordered by recent activity, and a live "Recording" card sits at the top of Home while you record.

Chat

• One consistent bubble style across the app, smoother send and recall animations, and switching between walkie-talkie and keyboard no longer jumps.
• The photo viewer and full-screen video no longer swipe you out of the chat by accident.

Plans

• When the monthly allowance runs out, the upgrade screen also shows the free route: add your first friend and you both get a month of Pro.

Fixes

• Chinese subtitles no longer flicker while a line is being revealed.

Friends, chat and calls

Add friends inside BufferMind, send text, photos, video and voice messages, and start a voice or video call. Share a recorded session straight into a chat.

Andy got a lot better

Ask about a photo of the board. Answers stream in as they are written, with proper math formatting. Andy now also flags the moment your name is called in class.

Have the translation read aloud

Listen to the live translation through your headphones while the lecture is still running.

Pro and Max plans

More recording hours and more Andy for when the free monthly allowance is not enough — Max lifts the cap on both. Free accounts keep their allowance.

Redesigned throughout The whole iPhone experience has been rebuilt — home, sidebar, settings and the recording screen.

Plus a long list of recording reliability fixes: faster cold start, no more lost audio on very short sessions, and better recovery if the app is killed mid-recording.

2.3.0 A New Look That Matches the Web App, and Pro Upgrades on Mac

macOS

• You can now upgrade to Pro from the Mac app. Tap Upgrade and finish checkout in your browser.
• Folders, Friends and All Recordings open in two columns: the list on the left, the details on the right.
• Your account now sits at the bottom of the sidebar. Click it to open Settings. Search moved next to Recents.
• New recording bar and playback bar, the same as the web app.
• Select several recordings on the All Recordings page and delete them at once.
• If the connection drops for a moment during a recording, it now reconnects on its own instead of stopping.
• Mixed Chinese and English classes: when English stops getting translated, the translation now recovers by itself.
• If the app window crashes during a recording, a new recording starts on its own in the same folder.
• A notice now shows when your network is too slow for captions to keep up.
• Quitting while recording now asks first. Choose Stop and Quit to save the recording before the app closes.
• Andy's chat and the language button now look the same as the web app.
• New welcome screens the first time you open the app.

2.2.3 Fix for macOS 14 and 15

macOS

• Fixed a badly broken layout on macOS 14 and 15, where panels overlapped each other and the glass rendered as flat white or grey. Those systems now use a layout built for them — nothing changes on macOS 26.

2.2.2 Notice Board Button, Update Popup & Folder Pinning

Everywhere

• The notice board now lives behind a round glass button at the top-left of the home page — a red badge counts unread notices; the summary card that used to sit on the home page is gone
• After an update, a one-time popup shows what changed (opening with a short note from the developer); closing it keeps the badge until you open the board
• The notice board shows each version's release date, marks highlighted features with a star, groups bug fixes under their own heading and shows the version you are running
• Notice text supports basic formatting, and a feature can carry a short demo clip
• The new-folder dialog gains a "Pin to sidebar" switch (on by default), and a new folder appears in the sidebar the moment it is created
• Accepting a shared-folder invite no longer jumps the page
• Settings › About gains a "Notice board" row with the unread count

macOS

• The notice board button is a native glass control in the title bar, right after the sidebar toggle
